Boyfriend wants space – What Should I Do?

by admin on October 15, 2011

boyfriend wants spaceIf your boyfriend is asking for some time off or wants some space from you, it’s normal for you to feel a bit confused or “shut down”. Usually there are two main reasons that a boyfriend wants space.

Firstly, if your boyfriend is keen to have some space from the relationship and has told you why this is the case, then depending on that particular reason you shouldn’t feel confused about it. He’s been up front and honestly opened up to you and let you know how he’s feeling. If anything, this shows how much he truly cares about you and doesn’t want to waste your time unless he’s fully committed. So consider this to be a positive. Also since he’s mentioned why he wants the space, it’s up to you and him to sort it out.

Now, if you’re in the other category and your boyfriend wants space but hasn’t actually said why, or doesn’t really want to talk about it, the rest of this article is perfect for you.

Unfortunately there are times when both parties in a relationship get distanced a little and find that one of them isn’t as committed as they once were. If your boyfriend wants space, this could be the case, especially if you feel that over the last few weeks you both were slowly losing that initial ‘spark’ you had.

The majority of the time, when your boyfriend wants space and you give it to him, he takes it and just uses it for some time to reflect upon things, and he’ll come back more committed than ever. If you were truly a big part of his life, he’ll surely see how much you meant when he starts missing you within just a few days.

If you found that your boyfriend was always great, and you both seemed to be on the same page, but then suddenly he wants some space, this sign pretty much point to bad things. It’s unfortunate, but this usually means that he’s found someone else, or feels really ‘suffocated’ by something that you’re doing.

The best thing you could do in a situation like this is approach your boyfriend and be up front and honest with him. Tell him exactly what he means to you, and say that if he’s not going to respond back with the same or similar feelings, of if he doesn’t feel the same way, to tell you now, and stop wasting your time.

I can tell you, as much as heart break hurts, the feeling of not knowing where you stand with your boyfriend is even worse. Not knowing if you’re still together or if you’ve broken up is probably one of the worst feelings you’ll have in your love life.

So remember, if your boyfriend wants space, give it to him. But also ask him why, and try to get an answer out of him. Tell him you want to know where you stand in his life and you don’t want him to waste your time while he takes his break from the relationship.
